Settling Your Child into Nursery
It is very important that parents and their children feel happy and relaxed at their first visit to the nursery. Management and senior staff are there to discuss individual requirements and to offer support and advice regarding all aspects of the nursery environment.
The nursery advises that your child has a two-hour settling in session to enable them to have a smooth transition into nursery life. The number of two-hour sessions will depend entirely on the child’s individual needs.

We encourage parents to work in partnership with staff enabling them to have involvement in their child’s care and development whilst in nursery.
We encourage parents to get involved in the day to day running and activities of the Nursery by asking them to contribute to the suggestion book. We also ask parents to complete a questionnaire which helps the nursery improve on it’s quality of care This gives parents and children an opportunity to have their say.
Daily communication between staff and parents is essential. Parents can talk to staff on a daily basis. Parents are welcome to phone or visit the nursery at any time. Parents are given a daily report on their child’s day at the nursery
The Nursery Directors are Mrs. Maria Williams & Mrs. Helen Norman. Maria and Helen are actively involved helping with administration duties and the covering of nursery staff.
The nursery management team work along side staff, becoming closely involved with the children and their parents/carers to ensure each child’s individual needs are met.
The nursery ensures that all members of staff have clear enhanced disclosure barring service checks, detailed references, and qualifications verified upon recruitment. Nursery nurses are CCLD Level 3 qualified, nursery assistants are CCLD level 2 qualified (or are working towards level 3). Unqualified are working towards level 2 and will move on to level 3. At least 90% of staff are paediatric first aid qualified, and have child protection training. If any new staff have not received training on recruitment they will be placed on the next available training course.
It is of great importance that every child feels secure, happy and stimulated. Our team of friendly, qualified and committed staff provide each child with a high standard of care in an environment that is safe, calm, and one which provides activities to meet each child’s individual needs.
Each room has a senior nursery nurse who oversees the running of their particular area.
Bizzi Day Nurseries is committed to training and development. We support local colleges and schools by providing placement opportunities. These students work under close supervision, and are treated as supernumerary and are never left alone.
The manager has a strict contingency plan in place to cover any staff absences, which ensures that staff ratios are maintained at all times.
A member of staff must register children on arrival. There is a signing in book located each floor for parents to sign in their child and themselves. The nursery must be informed if there is a change of person collecting your child, in this instance we will operate the password policy.
We must stress that we are only insured to take children between the hours of 7:30am and 6:00pm.
There is also a late collections fee of £3.00 per 5 Minutes late.
The garden has a special surface that is soft and helps to cushion children when falling.
We have an outdoor canopy which gives some protection from the sun and rain.
As the garden is small the children do not all go out at the same time, they go out in their groups at different times of the day.
We have an area in the garden where children can plant seeds. We have a mud kitchen, sand and water play area, an insect/bug house and a loose parts area for children to explore. The garden has a teepee, a bridge and stepping stones. We have a range of equipment to promote outdoor physical development.
The garden can be used as an outdoor classroom, depending on weather conditions.
Children’s experiences in the earliest years of their lives are critical to their subsequent development. At Bizzi Day Nurseries LTD we promote the welsh government Curriculum for non-maintained nursery settings that is designed to support children aged 0 to up to school age.
The curriculum is play based specifically designed for under 5 year olds and feeds into the curriculum in schools.
Underpinning the curriculum are four purposes that support our children to become:
- Ambitious, capable learners
- Enterprising, creative contributors
- Ethical, informed citizens
- Healthy confident individuals
The curriculum is split into development pathways and each child will work towards these throughout each day. The headings are;
- Belonging
- Communication
- Exploration
- Physical development
- Wellbeing
The curriculum allows us to plan for childrens individual needs. We will observe children , and allow them to follow their own fascinations and interests
Planning is now ‘in the moment’ At the end of each term we will send parents a review informing them of what their child has participate in, experienced and built upon the previous six weeks. As well as this we will continue with development books, observations and also hold progress reviews with room leaders and key workers.
Children’s work is displayed around the nursery along with photographs of children carrying out activities. We also send parents picture collages of children partisipating in play.
Each parent is provided with a daily report sheet, stating all the relevant details of their child’s day e.g. what they have eaten and how much, sleeping times and other relevent information.
At Bizzi Day we feel it’s important to observe the children and encourage their development. We assesses children’s skills using these observations from outcomes expressed in the four Areas of Learning.

What is WellComm?
WellComm is a screening and intervention project to support children’s language and development. Practitioners at Bizzi Day Nursery have been trained to complete a brief assessment of each child’s speech, language and communication skills.
The WellComm system is:
A means of tracking children’s progress, regardless of ability.
The opportunity to identify areas of concern in language, communication and interaction development, in order to ensure targeted early intervention.
Bizzi Day Nursery works alongside Bridgend’s childcare team to provide ideas and resources to help those children who have some language difficulties, enhance the skills of all children and increase the number of children whose language, communication and interaction development is within the expected range for the age group.
An assessment that can be used at different stages of the child’s development to understand progress.
A diagnostic tool to enable practitioners to advise parents should the need arise for external help and support (such as speech and language therapists)
A range of fun and play-based activities to address children’s language needs.
A means of collaborative working.
How does it work?
Every child over two years of age is assessed for around 10 – 15 minutes on their understanding of what is being said to them (receptive language) and also how they communicate verbally (expressive language). This assessment is partly completed through the everyday observations that your child’s teacher carries out in class to assess his/her progress throughout the whole of the Early Years curriculum. But also involves few targeted questions such as asking your child to point out various pictures or follow some easy instructions.
Each child’s own pace and concentration span is taken into consideration and the overall assessment may be done in several stages.
